--- Comment #6 from Alex Deucher <alexdeucher at gmail.com> --- Do you have dpm enabled (radeon.dpm=1 on the kernel command line in grub, etc.)? dpm is disabled by default so unless you have enabled it, none of that new code added in that patch gets executed. You might be missing the smc ucode file for which would explain why your patch fixes the issue.
