The .folder.subfolder is *disk* representation of folders. This has no bearing 
what the client are using.

The other thing is *virtual* (ie. what the client sees) which is governed by 
namespace_separator setting.

so basically

namespace inbox {
  inbox = yes
  separator = .
}
