main branch (git HEAD) is considered v0.0.0. For various reasons. Release branches contain version file and builds with 2.4.2 as version. If you wish to build 2.4.2 from main HEAD, you can pretend it's 2.4.2 by using VERSION envvar, or creating the version file yourself, but it's still going to be something else than 2.4.2.
