In your config I'm missing a line like this:
auth_socket_path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-userdb
Please have a look at your 10-master.conf if it contains something like:
service auth {
[...]
unix_listener auth-userdb {
#mode = 0666
user = mail
group = mail
}
If not, please enable this additional auth socket.
And just to be sure: could you please provide an 'ls -l' of this file:
/var/mail/%d/shared-mailboxes.db
If it exists at all: does it already have any content or is it empty?
