Currently there's no easy way to do this. You can of course hide the lazy-expunge namespace from users by giving it a random name so users can't find it. You could use maildir, but it would make expunging slower. Anyway, I don't really understand the problem. You can delete separate mails from mdbox just as well as from maildir. "doveadm purge" won't do anything to lazy-expunged messages, you first have to separately expunge them from there as well.
