Try with a pop/imap proxy as perdition, and route based on @domain1,
@domain2 to the right mail-backend (or route based in mailHost attibute
via ldap search)
Also, 1.0 is old, you should seriously consider upgrading to at least
current 1.2.#, if not 2.0.#...
I'm not really sure what helped: upgrading to 1.2 or using a fresh
dovecot.conf and migrating the old configurations into it. Whatever the
annoying message is gone.
