Some OSes/filesystems don't like that. This should help: http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-1.1/rev/71b7c7f8d7a2 I'm not sure if CIFS has other problems though. And I hope you're not trying to access the same user's mails in two different servers at the same time? BTW. Is it intentional that you're using dbox format under Maildir?
