From the /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf comments on my machine:
# POP3 UIDL (unique mail identifier) format to use. You can use

# %m - MD5 sum of the mailbox headers in hex (mbox only)
# %f - filename (maildir only)

# So, you'd want to add to your dovecot.conf:
#
pop3_uidl_format = %08Xv%08Xu
