You really should update to at least 1.0 - but best would be the current
version, 1.0.3 - otherwise, you may be chasing a problem that is already
fixed.
Maybe, but I have to be sure before that is a real Dovecot problem and
not a missconfiguration client value, for example.
Currently I suspect about IDLE command kmail MUA implementation.
