After I swapped out my kubuntu 24.04 hard disk for the W10 disk, when I
reinstated the Kubuntu disk it wouldn't boot  due to state of BIOS and once I
selected the right arrangement of the BIOS disks and got it running I had to
run the following to fix it. This might work for you?

sudo update-grub
sudo grub-install /dev/sda1                       ** or wherever you want it
installed.

Moving the rootfs partition shouldn't pose any problem, I've done this multiple

Whilst I agree with this statement, partition management can be a risky
business because one mistake can lead to catastrophic failure. I would
suggest that you should back up your personal data before making the
changes. The distro data can always be retrieved, by and large, by
re-installation, but personal data would be gone forever.
