Update of printing problem
Took out the cartridges, checked contacts were clean - OK.
Removed print head as per docs and 'washed' as described in manual.
Cleaned all contact areas on machine, did print head clean after
reassembly and printed at least 4 copies double sided to replenish inks
washed out.
All to no effect!!! Black printed washed out 'blueish' and colours not
as good as before: so no improvement. Shame as it's been a good printer.
Don't need fax or document feeder so looking for simple good colour
inkjet print, copy & scan machine. Colour printing is occasional use
for photo's. (Main printer is the Brother Laser does our B&W printing;
no scanning though).
Quite happy to get refills as and when required so don't need auto
supply and would prefer separate cartridges for each colour. Must work
with Linux and be Wireless or Ethernet connection to the router
(network), under £110.
Looking on the internet the HP printers all seem to come with auto
supply inks, Epson with fax and not sure with Canon as previous Canon
had connection problems (that was years ago!!)
Any recommendations / suggestions please?

Hi Ralph
Thanks for the reply. That confirms what I had found but did not
realise that they removed mauals so agree what you say.
Did find other manuals and I have the original documents that came
with the printer but as you say nothing refers to either of the 2
questions.
Looks as if I'll have to find a new colour printer. Not long ago I
bought a Brother Laser B&W as that does the main network prints.
Perhaps I should have got a colour laser (? :-)) but that was going
over the top at the time.
Found the HP printers usually worked fine with Linux but their systems
have changed with inkjet printers.

2, Same printer: tried to find how to change display screen
background from dark to light but can't find anything on internet.
I know it's possible as I changed it many years ago (can't find the
notes on how to do it).

Printer not supported by HP now.
I went looking for the manual and HP say:
‘Retired product
...
‘Once a product is retired, the official HP support content
(troubleshooting articles, user guides, how-to videos, etc.) for
that
product is removed from the HP web site.’
That seems a stupid policy to me, one which only harms the customer who
has handed over money in the past. It knocks them off my list of
manufacturers to buy.
I did find the right manual, probably, at
https://manualmachine.com/download.php?id=7352056&download-status=process0001
but it doesn't contain much of use.
