Hi Terry, At the time, I didn't have to do anything for the pis to be compatible, because the mysql client provided worked with the database on the NAS box.
I believe incompatibility would start to be a problem if we updated Raspberry Pi OS as well, but with the current version all seems fine. I think I'd have to recommend using a virtual machine too, that's probably the easiest fix for this problem.
