OK, let's start from scratch.  You're at your Pi, not at a desktop.  You
find typing `nano' followed by Enter at the shell's prompt gives the
error about the unknown terminal type.

If you then enter, on one line, `TERM=vt220 nano', and press Enter then
nano should be happy and start up.
