You may have seen some of my activities over the past few weeks. I wanted to
update y’all on where I’m going with this.

Our documentation declares pretty loudly that httpd is a project that hasn’t
been updated in a long time. Since that’s clearly not true, I’m on a mission to
drag the docs into 2026. This is a multifaceted operation, and I definitely am
looking for help.

The main things I’m working on are:

* Address all open documentation bug reports. We’re down to 70 from about 140
at the start of the year.
* Update all documentation to respect the new style guide (See
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/httpd/trunk/docs/manual/AGENTS.md)
* Fix all broken links (See
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=70006)
* Provide translations of all documents into our 7 target languages (See other
thread, https://lists.apache.org/thread/p3dzmgvyfpx6kpd9253r8x7vmvgmb884)

I looked into the possibility of converting from our bespoke XML format to
markdown, but I think we would lose a LOT of the richness of our syntax, so
that’s not something I’m pursuing at this time.

After all of that - which I expect to take another month, at least - I’m going
to be looking at our website. I am definitely not a web designer. But our
website makes me cringe every time I look at it. I honestly don’t know what I’m
hoping to do here, and would appreciate someone with actual skills to step up
and give us some suggestions. But at the very lease I’ll be updating comments
like "try the USENET newsgroups " news:comp.infosystems.www.servers.unix " or "
news:comp.infosystems.www.servers.ms-windows " (as appropriate for the platform
you use).” (Yes, that’s actually on our website.)

I’m hoping that some of y’all are still listening, and will pipe up with other
things that we should be looking at to make the docs, and our website,
something that we can be proud of, and which accurately reflects the amazing
work that folks are doing over on the dev@ side of the project.
