The Illuminati brotherhood has been a topic of fascination and conspiracy
theories for centuries. Recently, there have been reports of ongoing scam
campaigns involving fake "Illuminati cabals" that promise riches and a
lavish lifestyle to those who join.¹

In June 2023, Bitdefender Antispam Lab researchers alerted users to these
scams, which have been targeting individuals worldwide, particularly in the
US, Australia, the UK, and Germany. The scammers use various tactics,
including WhatsApp messages and emails, to lure victims into providing
personal information and eventually paying fees to join the fake Illuminati
organization.

It's essential to be cautious of these scams and not respond to unsolicited
messages or emails that promise unrealistic benefits. The real Illuminati,
founded by Adam Weishaupt in 1776, was a secret society that aimed to
promote rationalism and intellectual discourse, but it was banned in 1785
and has since become a topic of speculation and conspiracy theories*.²Message
