Remember, it is much, much easier to see a candle flame when it’s surrounded by darkness. So the darkness serves you to see the light, even as the light creates shadows and puts you in touch with the idea of the darkness.
Without darkness you wouldn’t know the light, so the darkness gives you the opportunity to actually see what you prefer.
