Greetings Detlef; I am also planning on installing Pandoc and taking a look at it. As far as the using the old documentation the problem is the license. The old ODF Authors documentation was duel licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3 or later, or the GNU General Public License version 3.0 or later, both of which are Category X licenses and cannot be published or released under the the Apache License Version 2.0.
