For debugging it doesn't really help to make the common easier and the
uncommon case harder. Typically it is the uncommon case that needs debugging.

If, for some contrained device, bandwidth (or energy) is an issue and most
stuff needs to be packed in a DNS request or reply, then that seems to me
a valid reason to look at introducing more protocol complexity.

But if the argument is to make debugging easier then please don't.
