John's homesteading approach sounds like exactly the right one to me. Some deployment risks are better addressed by the people doing the deployment, not by spectators. Let's make the conscious, informed decision to recommend against any authoritative registry for DNS-like namespaces that end in ".ALT". It should be clear that this is a goal, not an oversight. Joe
