Hey Simon,

Thank you for the tag. We've pushed out 2.91test9 on the same day to all Pi-hole beta users. We have no real idea how many are out there but we see at least roughly 100 participants in our discussion platforms. There are probably many more which never speak up.

So far, everything has been smooth but this morning we received a response from a very careful user having noticed something odd. Their configuration looks like

server=8.8.8.8
server=8.8.4.4

plus thousands of lines for individual domains to other servers like

server=/abcnews.com/1.1.1.1
server=/abcnews.com/9.9.9.9

What they have seen now is that - rather often - queries which have NO individual server=// lines are still sent to 1.1.1.1 although they should have been sent to the default servers 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4.

I have not had time to try to reproduce this inside dnsmasq myself but maybe it already rings a bell as to what may be happening (like maybe not resetting the next server to be used, etc.) in case of a config like the one I described above.

Best
Dominik

I tagged and pushed 2.91test9.

I'm hoping to go to a release candidate next, so now would be a really good time to download the latest code and give it a spin.

Cheers,

Simon.
