Gmail.ie redirects to Gmail correctly .. Though I've never seen them advertise Gmail using anything other than the .com ..

These days a large number of SERVFAILs are triggered by botnets, and thus it is entirely possible that the queries I found for gmail.fr were also triggered by botnets.
