https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Solutions I see parallels between the responses from some registrars to my recent words here and the position of Network Solution Inc in the 1990s on the costs and difficulties of registrations. If vendors claims about what the market wants and what is technically and administratively possible were generally accurate, then registering and maintaining a gTLD name today would be as expensive, clumsy, error prone, and generally primitive as in the early 1990s. > Any of the "Wild West Domains" affiliates/resellers, such as > cheap-domainregistration.com handle DS I think Wild West Domains is an aspect of GoDaddy. I personally would not choose GoDaddy unless the alternative were Network Solutions Inc or some others. My most recent personal GoDaddy experience was a wrestling match last year to move my brother's domains. It was too close to Hotel California. On the other hand, instead of the hilarious responses from some registrars to my recent words here, I noticed during that effort that GoDaddy had made the rational business choice. Instead of whining that DNSSEC support is technically and administratively impossible, that no one wants it, that it would cost too much, and it's a bad idea in general, GoDaddy simply takes money to do it. I wonder if the fact that was almost 18 months ago might be related to GoDaddy's market share. It's not that DNSSEC brings market share, but being not just willing but eager to sell whatever the customer wants does. Telling the market that it doesn't really want something is a tactic that can work for a while if you have the special situation like NSI, but even an NSI is forced to change eventually. If I were running a registrar, then besides having better IPv6 glue and basic DNSSEC stories than "the market isn't ready" or "send mail to support," I'd be paying attention to DANE. https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=dane+dnssec Vernon Schryver v...@rhyolite.com _______________________________________________ dns-operations mailing list dns-operations@lists.dns-oarc.net https://lists.dns-oarc.net/mailman/listinfo/dns-operations dns-jobs mailing list https://lists.dns-oarc.net/mailman/listinfo/dns-jobs
