The preceding link brings up so many excellent points I can't comment on anywhere near all of them, so I'll just pose one question that popped into my head while reading it: Did Redhat threaten or bestow benefits on Debian or its people, and if so, what are the details? If Debian had gone with runit or s6 or even OpenRC, Redhat would have lost, and Redhat knew it.
