This is a circular argument. How do you get prepared If you don't start playing with stuff. Come on, this is Linux you can tinker with everything, kernel, libc even the most complex and when you don't understand something and/or need a hint there is a community to ask. I myself started my linux journey by asking novice questions on the busybox ml and there very patient and competent and polite people spoon fed me every step until I learned C programming of which I knew next to nothing. In the end I was able to contribute back some work to the project so it was a win win situation for everybody. This is how linux works. So I've been there already and I'm enlightened, please stop to do the godfather.
