I appreciate you taking the time for the explanation of the flow of logic driving the developments. It adds some depth that the average user, like me is not normally exposed to.

I remember doing installations with various partitions for directories, as much for coolness as anything, paper install manuals pointed the way. I don't know if I represent the average use case, but now days other than swap and UEFI stuff, I just keep /home in a separate partition, spinning on its own when I can.
