When something graphical suddenly stops working it's likely an update was the cause. E.g when the kernel or a library was updated but a graphics driver was not.
POL is just a frontend to wine, and I can say I was satisfied with how both wine and POL are working on Devuan ASCII. I think you'll be fine there.
