Thank you Greg. I now remember (and checked) this is not a RPi 2 but the last RPi 1 B in my collection of Pi's. I should have known because my other (newer) Pi's are running Devuan Jessie and ASCII without any problem. Although i do have a backup i have adapted my sources.list to Raspbian Jessie and upgrading it seems to work. Grtz.
