But electric car starters are not anything new, they were patented in 1911, 15 years after they were first produced, at a time when Artificial Intelligence meant nothing. And there is a reason things evolve, expecially in technology. They do not always evolve the right way, but I see no reason to abandon mature technology (like Xorg autoconfiguration capabilities) for something old and impractical just because in the old times we all did things that way (cursing and yelling at the blank monitor's message: "Mode unsupported").
