There's apulse but it's a piece of poo -- at least on my main home box (which happens to be my only non-phone machine with sound output hardware attached) it produces a loud noise every single time an unrelated sound starts while an apulse-wrapped program is running. I did not investigate what this bug is caused by -- I have no real need for sound in a browser thus it wasn't worth my tuits yet -- but here you have a report that apulse is buggy for at least one person.
