Documenting the qemu invocation will help. I haven't used qemu lately and had forgotten about the -boot d argument, which is probably what makes the difference here. I was interested to learn that I can likely boot linux liveCDs on Intel Macs, and look forward to adding this small distro to my backup and rescue tools.
