Oh my, are you using Wheezy? This is supposed to be for Jessie -- I have no clue what would happen if you tried installing this on an older version.

eudev didn't even exist at udev version 175, so there should be no equivalent version to drop in. I would recommend just using what Wheezy already provides. If you upgrade to Jessie/Devuan, then this eudev is a good idea. I haven't even looked into Stretch? yet.

Hello Jaret,

Yes. I am on Debian wheezy. I think I always mention that. :)

The main reason I am insisting to stay on Debian wheezy (while I am waiting for Devuan) is that, I have a lot of issues using Debian jessie. Perhaps it has too many "contaminated" packages so I get those issues as I always pin any packages containing *systemd* to Pin-Priority: -1. If I would be successful in using eudev on my test PC, I will use it on all my other installs including the PC I am using now for writing this email.

I still suspect that there seems to be a problem with the install script.

I have done the followings:

1. Upgrade udev to Debian wheezy-backports

   That also pulled libudev1

2. Upgrade the packages below to Debian jessie

dmsetup, grub-common, grub-pc, grub-pc-bin, grub2-common, libcryptsetup-dev, libcryptsetup4, libdevmapper1.02.1, nfs-common

3. Purge libudev0

4. Install eudev package

   The same result as before

Please have a look below for the detail.

I will switch to Devuan merged repository which mostly contains Debian jessie packages. And I will give the update later on.

Cheers,

Anto
