Thanks Ron, that helps a lot.  :-)

Windows doesn't protect anybody  from much of anything, and hence there
is a uniform way to set up GPU usage.  On Linux, there are at least 2
ways to set things up, neither of which is useful in general.

I was hoping, some discussion on a better solution might come out of
this note.  I was wrong.
