This happened to me before. I solved it by first writing generic text in the template and then making sure that the text would show. Then I passed a variable to the template but left it defined as {None: None} to see if I was making the call correctly. Finally, I edited the variable to be some text that I wanted to view (the data you are referring to). I don't remember what the actual problem was, but I was able to solve it by doing this.
