At least in postgres you need a special kind of index to run that
query efficiently. I did something very similar recently and was able
to get around 300 requests per second without caching on a normal
desktop computer. So, check your database documentation for details
and EXPLAIN your query in db shell. You can get the sql query by
running books.obje...:100].query.as_sql().
