In the admin for my app, I added the following code. It works, and I
can't remember where I found it but it was someone's blog.

#
# Make our profile show up in the user admin
#
admin.site.unregister(User)

class UserProfileInline(admin.StackedInline):
    model = UserProfile
    filter_horizontal = ['myField']

class UserProfileAdmin(UserAdmin):
    inlines = [UserProfileInline]
