It actually turns out that there is appears to be a bug serving the application under Twisted where normal forms are not being properly reflected in Django's REQUEST object.
When I 'solved' the problem, I was running under the development server (since it nicely restarts itself on code changes). I had it all working and went back to my "production" setup using Twisted and normal posts are NOT reflected in Django's REQUEST object. Crap.
