I still don't get any errors or directories generated from this code,
any ideas?

        if SHA1_RE.search(activation_key):
            try:
                profile = self.get(activation_key=activation_key)
            except self.model.DoesNotExist:
                return False
            if not profile.activation_key_expired():
                try:
                    import os
                    media_root = dzopastudio.settings.MEDIA_ROOT
                    user_directory_path = os.path.join(media_root,
'listings',  'neridaj')
                    os.mkdir(user_directory_path)
                except:
                        print "directory could not be created."
                user = profile.user
                user.is_active = True
                user.save()
                profile.activation_key = self.model.ACTIVATED
                profile.save()
                return user
        return False
