What type of plans do they offer and what are you trying to use?

There is currently a discussion going on on mod_python list about
compiling mod_python on 1and1. There Apache setup seems to be a bit
screwed up, but working through issues. I don't know whether this is a
customer asking about this, or 1and1 themselves.

Either way, if that level of access is available, ie., to compile and
install Apache modules, you could install mod_python or mod_wsgi.
Better options these days is probably mod_wsgi.
