To quote the OP:
"where http://www.yoursite/forum/ takes you to the *actual directory* /
forum/ on the server." (emphasis mine)

If he is talking about /forum/ being just a directory with HTML files
(which is what I understood *actual directory* to mean), the above
will work for his development needs. If he implied that /forum/ might
contain dynamic scripts, you'd be right.
