There is a trailing slash in your urlconf, so that matches the url you show, and your status function will be called when that url is received for processing. If you remove the trailing slash from your urlconf entry, you will also need to prevent it being included when this url is generated. You've given no context on how this url is being generated, so I don't know where you'd need to do that. But I don't know why you'd want to, since I don't know why you think the syntax as-is is wrong. So far as I know it is perfectly valid.
