There are a lot of variables involved here, so before we go any further,
please provide some more information:

        - What version of MySQL are you running?
        - What version of MySQLdb-python?
        - What version of Django?
        - Which database backend (mysql or msyql_old)?
        - What is the character encoding of the tables concerned in
        MySQL?

Regards,
Malcolm
