I haven't tried to work with it yet, but you might want to checkout (pun intended) the Django-based cart 'Satchmo' at http://www.satchmoproject.com/ and their newsgroup at http://groups.google.com/group/satchmo-users. They are currently at 0.6 and are working on their roadmap to 1.0.
