Configuration: Django .96, apache 2.0 prefork, mod_python 3.1, python
2.3.5

Symptoms: Monitor site (using wget) can't get HTTP status, netstat
shows a dramatic increase in the number of connections, ram usage
increases dramatically, processor usage drops to almost nothing

Notes: A complete restart of the server appears to resolve the issue.
No relevant errors can be found in the apache error.log or the syslog.

We justed moved to a new webserver. The new webserver is running a
similar configuration to the old one. The old webserver ran fine. I
don't really know what and where to look to see what is different.

The "blackout" does not correspond with any spike in traffic. As a
matter of fact, it happens during off hours.

It seems to "fix" itself if you let it sit for about 30 minutes, as it
starts accepting traffic again.

Any suggestions on where to look, and what to change?

Thanks,

Joe
