Ok, thanks. I think we have enough feedback now, everybody. Thanks for the rapid responses. I was mostly interested in what LANG was set to; I already believe Python's locale stuff works correctly. The links Karen found suggest that it is a Leopard problem, but isn't to affect everybody and it is possible to work around. So annoying, but not a showstopper.
