Those methods suck and hopefully will be removed. Use a callable
default instead of auto_now_add (or overridden save instead of
auto_now, like Jarek gave):

from datetime import datetime
class YourModel(models.Model):
    created = models.DateTimeField(default=datetime.utcnow)
