This is a known problem, detailed in #4621. There isn't a lot of core developer effort going into fix the many known problems with the existing admin application because it is due to be replaced very soon (with the contents of the newforms-admin branch). However, if you come up with a fix on your own, feel free to contribute the patch to the ticket.
