I think you will feel better if you look at manage.py which is basically: from django.core.management import execute_manager import settings # Assumed to be in the same directory. execute_manager(settings) "import settings" is the magic :) > > But, what if I'm not using the interactive shell? "not using X" does not say what you are doing - my best guess is "what will be available if I just run python?" if so, the answer is "nothing other than you can import django." but I am only guessing that is the question.
