It will be merged much sooner than "one or two releases" time. It is one of the major prerequisites for the 0.97 release. Unless I am mistaken, newforms-admin is reasonably close to getting merged back to trunk. There are still one or two outstanding features to sort out, but the timeline for the merge is "in the near future", not "at some point in the future".
