Are you sure it's not a client issue? I had a problem with ffox 1.5 and 2.0 which i fixed disabling ffox IPV6 support and other stuff (maxrequests and so on). The site was crawling, but it wasn't Django's fault. Try testing with IE if you happen to have it handy.
