Sorry, forgot to mention OV ("Organization Validation") certs.
There's a good comparison herehttps://www.ssl.com/article/dv-ov-and-ev-certificates/ Additionally, you *can* self-sign your own cert but it will throw up an "untrusted cert" warning to your users.
